Endangered Animal Spawns Contagion Horror Short!
Australian Writer/Director Heidi Lee Douglas’ contagion short Devil Woman premiered on Alter this week after a festival run that saw it lap the globe from Fantasia to Fright Fest, Morbido to Monsterfest and onto Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. Devil Woman has taken on new meaning with recent world events, where an endangered animal spawning a deadly contagion is now a story-line humanity is tragically living through with Covid-19.
“Devil Woman is definitely a cautionary tale, but I honestly didn’t expect it to mirror real life as much as it is”, says Douglas from Sydney Australia.

Fantasia Film Festivals Mitch Davis selected the short for its’ World Premiere as part of the acclaimed Short Gauge Trauma block, calling it “a propulsive eco-horror scream with urgent political pertinence from the award-winning maker of LITTLE LAMB".
After a gang-busters local release of the music video for ‘Boom Town’ by Steel City Sue saw just under 10,000 views on Vimeo and YouTube in its first week, Steel City Sue is now releasing the second video with the song ‘I’ve Still Got Time for You’ – a departure from the gritty local politics of Boom Town into country heart break.

The video was shot on location at the Bexley RSL in South Sydney and the video also features real-life dance students of Shane and Keri as well as staff from the RSL who fill the video with unique and beautiful characters – and a perfect setting for the fiddle-driven song evoking a retro dance hall scene. It is buoyant yet sad.

The video for the song was produced by award winning filmmaker Heidi Lee Douglas (Dark Lake Productions) and shot by Skye Davies.
Boom Town is the title track of Steel City Sue’s (Su Morely) debut album which won Best Song in 2018 Australian Roots Music Awards. The song and clip filmed on location in Newcastle, explore the dereliction that has befallen Newcastle, during its status as the largest exporting coal port in the world.

“ ‘Show us the money’ is the central point of the song”, said songwriter Su Morley. “I’ve watched our town decay year after year while we’re in a supposed ‘coal boom’. And I was thinking enviously about all the beautiful cities and towns built in the gold rush - still standing. Where are the spoils of the ‘coal rush’ to be seen here in Newcastle?”.

We’ve just launched this clip on Vimeo and Youtube - so please pop over and give it a like today!

"Wish", a powerful, haunting ballad about living in a climate-changed world
We combined narrative and symbolic elements drawn from singer/songwriter Tim Hollo’s personal story of what inspired WISH. His daughter’s anxieties about growing up in a world affected by climate change are embodied powerfully by actor/dancer Marigold Pazar. By the end of the song her character has found the courage and strength to lead us into the future.

Nominated for  Best music video: Heidi Lee Douglas; Best Cinematography: Meg White; Best Production Design: Alice Cregan

Young filmmaker Heidi Lee Douglas goes to Tasmania to make a documentary about the destruction of the island’s ancient forests. As anti-logging protests escalate, logging giant Gunns Ltd reacts to public pressure by suing Heidi and 19 others for $6.4 million for allegedly conspiring to destroy the company’s business. When Heidi discovers Gunns wants to use her footage as evidence to support its claims, she faces a crisis of conscience. Heidi’s response is to turn the camera on herself to document her personal struggle as she goes into battle against a corporation out of control.
